Herbal Facial Waters & Toners

By Debs Cook

Rose Geranium Facial Water

  • 15 x Rose Scented Geranium Leaves
  • 200ml Purified Water
  • 100ml Pure Rose Water Hydrolate
  • 3 Drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil
  • 1 Tsp Benzoin Tincture

Place the leaves in a pan with the purified water and simmer together for 15 minutes, then turn off the heat and leave to steep for 4 hours.

Strain the leaves from the liquid and add the liquid to the rose water.

Stir in the rose geranium oil and benzoin tincture, bottle and label.

NB the Benzoin tincture acts as a preservative. It can be omitted if you don't intend to keep the rose geranium water for long.

Rose Geranium Water

Herbal Skin Freshener

250ml Witch Hazel
125ml Distilled Water
10g Dried Chamomile Flowers
10 Drops Lavender Oil
6 Drops Chamomile Oil
3 Drops Petigrain Oil

Method - Heat water to boiling and steep the tea bag in the water for 15 minutes. Add the chamomile water to the witch hazel and add essential oil. Shake before each use.

Notes: If you have fresh chamomile you'll need about 20g fresh flowers, you could always use a chamomile teabag if pushed but the therapeutic properties will have long since evaporated from the teabag.
You can make Rose Petal Toner using the same method, just substitute one or two large handfuls of fresh highly scented rose petals for the chamomile.

Peppermint Skin Reviver

250ml Apple Cider Vinegar
250ml Purified Water
125g Fresh Peppermint Leaves (chopped)

Method - Place all ingredients in a glass or enamel saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Pour into a glass jar and allow to steep for four days. Strain and bottle for use.

Notes: You can make rose skin freshner if you use white vinegar and 200g fresh rose petals. Lavender skin freshner can be made this way using 200g fresh lavender flowers. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to boost the scent. If you can't get fresh petals then substitute half the amount of dried herb instead and add 6 drops of essential oil.
